Generally, a topical drug to be applied to a large area should be applied first.

Moisturizer

It is generally believed that applying a moisturizer to a large area first and then a topical steroid only on the affected area can prevent the spread of the steroid to normal skin which does not need treatment.

Cosmetics

You can wear makeup during treatment with a topical steroid, but you should apply the topical steroid first so as not to cover the affected area with foundation, etc. and should apply light makeup. Do not use this drug under makeup.
In addition, do not apply topical steroids to the eyes or around the eyes. Pay careful attention not to spread the drug to the skin around the eyes by makeup.

Other drugs

If you use this drug with other steroids or drugs, not limited to topical drugs, be sure to consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Cases where antibacterial drugs are needed

As steroids have immunosuppressive activity in addition to anti-inflammatory activity, attention should be paid because if they are applied to suppurated (infected) skin, it may worsen the symptoms.
Topical drugs that can be applied to suppurated areas are those combined with antibacterial drugs.

Side effects

As side effects of topical steroids, the following symptoms may occur.

・The skin gets thin
・The skin gets red
・Rash
・Hair grows/increases where the drug is applied
・Infection with bacteria/fungi/viruses
・Tend to have pimples/pimples get worse
・Capillaries become noticeable, etc

As one of the side effects of topical drugs, Such as ointment, cream, and lotion, “contact dermatitis,” generally called “rash,” is known. This is caused not only by medicinal ingredients but also by additives mixed in the base. Topical steroids are treatment for rash, but they rarely cause a rash.

Topical steroids should not be applied to “pimples” or “boils.”
If you do not know whether the skin eruption is caused by eczema, or the symptoms do not get better after 5 or 6 days of use, visit a hospital (dermatology or pediatric department).
